France blocks Europe's purchase of ammunition for Ukraine on world markets. It is supported by Greece and Cyprus. This was reported by Politico, citing sources.
Paris wants European arms manufacturers to receive orders to justify increasing their production.
However, at a meeting of the Political and Security Committee, most EU countries voted in favor of allowing EU money to be used to buy shells produced outside the EU.
"By making immediate support for Ukraine secondary to the goal of creating an EU military industry, France exposes itself to accusations of heartlessness," the publication writes.
Earlier, however, sources in Paris said they would not oppose such purchases if the EU failed to deliver the promised million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine by March. This, as the EU leadership has already officially stated, will not happen.
