Hungarian farmers will protest against grain imports near the border with Ukraine

Next Friday, Hungarian farmers are preparing to protest on the border with Ukraine near the city of Záhony against the EU's extension of preferential trade regime with Ukraine, particularly for grain. This was reported by Telex.

The head of the Association of Hungarian Farmers' Associations (Magosz), Istvan Jakab, expressed dissatisfaction with the European Commission's plans to extend the abolition of import quotas and duties for Ukrainian exports to the EU. Farmers believe that this will create unequal conditions for competition, as products coming from Ukraine are not subject to EU requirements.

The farmers' union expressed support for the Hungarian government for protecting their interests from Brussels.

Hungarian Agriculture Minister István Nagy said earlier that the European Commission's proposal to extend the preferential trade regime with Ukraine "does not contain any solutions" to the situation with Ukrainian grain, and Hungary intends to maintain its national ban on imports of agricultural products from Ukraine.
