Kyiv school security guard did not allow children to take shelter during rocket attack because of dog

Kyiv law enforcement officers have opened a criminal case in connection with a security guard's failure to allow children to enter a school in Kyiv's Svyatoshyn district during an air raid alert on December 14, the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office reports.

"Under the procedural guidance of the juvenile prosecutors of the Svyatoshyn District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv, a pre-trial investigation was launched into the fact of deliberately leaving children in a life-threatening condition and deprived of the opportunity to take measures for self-preservation (Part 1 of Article 135 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine)," the city prosecutor's office said in a statement.

According to the investigation, on December 14, 2023, at about 16.20, during an air alert announced due to a Russian missile attack on the capital, an 11-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy tried to get into the shelter of a school in the Svyatoshyn district of Kyiv.

"Seeing that the children were with a dog, the guard did not let them into the shelter, despite the obvious threat to their lives due to the missile attack," the statement emphasizes.

The pre-trial investigation is being carried out by the Svyatoshyn Police Department of the Kyiv National Police.
