Dismantling of the composition in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada begins in Kyiv

The dismantling of the composition in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada under the Arch of Friendship of Peoples (now the Arch of Freedom of the Ukrainian People) has begun in Kyiv. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration.

"City utilities are starting to dismantle the composition in honor of the Pereyaslav Rada under the Freedom of the Ukrainian People Arch," the statement said.

Dismantling may take several days, as the structure is quite massive. It consists of 20 parts that weigh about 6,000-7,000 kg. It is to be preserved and transferred to the Antonov Aviation Museum.

Earlier, the Ministry of Culture proposed to demolish the Arch itself, but the KCSA opposed it.

The Pereyaslav Rada was a meeting of the Zaporizhzhia Cossacks led by Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky in 1654, which decided to grant the Cossacks allegiance to the Russian Tsar.
