A strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the Zaliv shipyard in Kerch in occupied Crimea, where a new Russian naval corvette Askold was damaged, may force Russia to withdraw its fleet even further from the peninsula, according to British Intelligence analysts.
The UK Ministry of Defense notes that the Karakurt-class corvette was launched in 2021 and has not yet been commissioned into the Russian Navy. It was struck further east in Crimea than most previous Ukrainian long-range strikes.
"Ukraine's ability to strike at the Crimean shipbuilding infrastructure is likely to force Russia to consider redeploying further behind the front line, which will delay the delivery of new ships," the experts said.
As a reminder, on Saturday evening, November 4, Ukrainian troops successfully attacked the infrastructure of a shipyard in the city of Kerch in Crimea. At the same time, it was reported that a small missile ship of the Karakurt project was hit.
