Poland supports Ukraine, but expects respect for its interests, - Andrzej Duda

Poland expects Ukraine to fully understand Warsaw's own interests, but emphasizes that support during the war will continue. President Andrzej Duda stated this in an interview with the PAP news agency.

In the context of Ukraine's situation due to the military confrontation, Poland supports Kyiv, while not forgetting its own interests. The President emphasized that Poland understands the difficulties faced by Ukraine, but it is important to take into account that each country has its own obligations and strategic goals.

Duda noted that he will maintain the blockade on Ukrainian grain imports after September 15, even despite the decision of the European Commission.

"It is clear that we consistently support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression... But the second thing, and this is the most important duty, is to protect the interests of the republic. This means protecting the domestic market and the EU market, which starts with us. It is also in our interest to recognize the historical truth in the space between states," the politician said.

The President commented on a statement by an official that Poland's assistance to Ukraine is not always appreciated. Duda emphasized that this is a misunderstanding and that ordinary people in Ukraine regularly express their gratitude to Poland for its support.

"We must remember that they (Ukrainians - ed.) are in a special situation. Therefore, sometimes we need to tell them: we understand that you are at war, but remember that we also live in the neighborhood and also have our obligations to Polish society," Andrzej Duda said.
