First agreements on security guarantees may be signed by the end of the year - Yermak

Negotiations on providing security guarantees to Ukraine as part of its aspirations for NATO membership are in full swing. The first agreements are expected to be signed by the end of this year, announced the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, the OP press service reports.

As part of the joint declaration adopted at the Alliance summit in Vilnius, such guarantees were provided. Yermak noted that negotiations with the United States on a bilateral security agreement are already underway.

He also emphasized that similar consultations would be held with the countries that signed the declaration.

The head of the President's Office expressed hope that the first agreements could be concluded by the end of this year, comparing their importance to an air defense system against potential threats to global stability.
