President Volodymyr Zelensky called the decision of US House Speaker Mike Johnson to separate aid to Israel from Ukraine in a corresponding bill "a shame to the world" and "pure politics". He said this in an interview with PBS.
The journalist recalled that Johnson said this week that the House of Representatives would try to vote for aid to Israel, but "it remains unclear whether aid to Ukraine will be included." Zelensky said that this is "strange."
Asked why, the president said: "This suggests that this is not a security issue then. This is absolutely pure politics. And, frankly, it's a shame for the world, and just a shame for democracy and for everyone who only talks about democracy."
According to him, if the Congress puts to a vote separate aid to Ukraine and separate aid to Israel, it will have a purely political context.
"This is a matter of elections in the United States. When the whole world says, "How is it that Iran was able to attack Israel?", we need to populistically help only Israel and forget what is happening in Ukraine. This is pure politics," the head of state said.
