The Finnish government is extending the closure of checkpoints on the border with Russia until further notice. At the same time, several ports will be added to the list of ports where entry will be prohibited. This was reported by Reuters.


Finland closed its land borders with Russia at the end of last year amid an increase in the number of people arriving from countries including Syria and Somalia. Finland has accused Moscow of using migration against the Scandinavian country, which the Kremlin denies.


"The Finnish authorities see this situation as a long-term one. This spring we have seen nothing that would allow us to conclude that the situation has changed significantly," Interior Minister Mari Rantanen said in a statement.


In February, the government announced that the border closure would last until April 14.
