The US Army is reducing the number of personnel by 24,000, or almost 5%, and is restructuring to be better prepared for the next major war. This was reported by the Associated Press.
According to the report, this mostly affects existing vacant positions, not active military personnel. In particular, about 3,000 people will be cut in the Special Operations Army.
At the same time, it is planned to add about 7,500 soldiers to perform other important tasks, including air defense and anti-drone units. Five new task forces will also be created around the world with improved cyber, intelligence and long-range strike capabilities.
US Secretary of the Army Christine Wormuth explained that these changes are aimed at preparing the army for possible large-scale military operations in the future.
