The USA plans to increase production of artillery shells for Ukraine

The US Army intends to double the production of artillery shells used in Ukraine by October this year. This was stated by Doug Bush, Chief of the US Army's Procurement Office, in Defense One.

The US plans to increase the production of 155-mm artillery shells from 28,000 last October to about 37,000 in April and about 60,000 in October 2024. The army then hopes to increase production even faster in 2025, from just under 75,000 rounds in April to 100,000 in October.

This planned increase, Bush noted, is due to a new plant in Texas that the Army is building that will use new technology to produce shells.

Bush also noted that the United States could revise its stockpile of artillery shells due to their massive use.

Currently, Ukrainian troops fire about 2,000 shells a day, which is about one-fifth of Russia's volume.
