The United States is ready to transfer ATACMS to Ukraine: only Biden's decision is awaited

The US Army has expressed its readiness to provide Ukraine with some of its long-range ATACMS missiles with a cluster warhead as soon as it is approved by President Joe Biden. This was reported by Pentagon Assistant Secretary of Defense for Acquisition Douglas Bush in an interview with Bloomberg.

According to Bush, the US Army has long been prepared for such a scenario and is ready to act quickly. He also noted that the missiles that could be transferred to Ukraine have already been identified.

ATACMS missiles have different versions, including those equipped with cluster warheads and standard warheads. The range of the cluster missiles is 25 to 300 kilometers, and they can carry 300 to 950 cluster munitions.

Interestingly, ATACMS missiles can be launched from the same launchers that Ukraine already uses to launch GPS-guided missiles, and they are launched in batches of six missiles at a time. However, in the case of ATACMS, only one missile can be launched from a single launcher. According to Bush, the modifications for their conversion are "not that significant".

Bush emphasized that minor upgrades, such as replacing some cables and software, are needed before the US Army can transfer these missiles to Ukraine.
