European Commission opens official proceedings against TikTok

The European Commission has opened formal proceedings against the Chinese social network TikTok under the Digital Services Act to check whether the platform is doing enough to protect children. Reuters reports this with reference to the document.

It states that the protection of minors is a top priority of the Digital Services Act, so as a platform that reaches millions of children and teenagers, TikTok must fully comply with the law and pay special attention to protecting minors online.

This is the second EU investigation under the Digital Services Act, following Elon Musk's social media platform X, which is still under investigation.

If the social network is found guilty of violating the law, TikTok may be subject to a significant fine of up to 6% of its annual revenue.
