The Ukrainian air defense system has undergone significant changes. During the full-scale war, in addition to the new range of weapons, mobile fire groups became the main shield against Russian Shaheds. Yuriy Ihnat, speaker of the Air Force of Ukraine, said this during a telethon.
"Our air defense system has undergone significant changes, a huge fleet of nomenclatures, I mean weapons. Of course, it is needed more in the Air Defense of the Ground Forces, and in other branches of the Armed Forces and law enforcement agencies. And, of course, the discovery of this war was mobile fire groups, which today work in thousands on the front line and inside the country, protecting us from the onslaught of Shaheds. This is their main goal, and that is why mobile fire groups are the main shield against this type of weapon," said Ihnat.
He emphasized that air defense has many components that work as a single system.
Answering the question whether Ukraine receives timely means to shoot down Russian targets, Ihnat said: "You see the results every day in the statistics. There are targets that can be shot down, and there are targets that, unfortunately, can only be shot down by special equipment such as Patriot. To protect the whole of Ukraine from ballistic missiles, you need a certain number of systems that need to be deployed over a large area as rationally as possible. Therefore, unfortunately, it is impossible to protect 100% of the air attack assets used by the enemy. We cannot talk about what we have and what we don't have. All the needs are provided by partners as one or another weapon is used.
He added that the military and political leadership of the state is already making new requests to replenish spent resources.
