Luxembourg extends temporary protection for Ukrainian refugees

Ukrainian refugees in Luxembourg will be able to enjoy temporary protection for another year. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country informed about the extension of the status until March 4, 2025. The status gives the right to work, but restricts access to child benefits, luxtimes.lu reports.

Currently, there are more than 4,200 people in Luxembourg who benefit from temporary protection. Ukrainians who have found a job and are not living in state shelters have the right to apply for residence in Luxembourg.

According to the association LUkraine, about 1000 refugees who arrived at the beginning of the war have left Luxembourg. Their further whereabouts are unknown.

The president of the association, Nicolas Zharov, noted that the situation remains unstable, and the decision to return to Ukraine depends on many factors, including security, family ties and the economic situation.

It is also noted that some refugees return to Ukraine due to lack of work or housing, as well as difficulties in finding housing in Luxembourg, especially for families with only one breadwinner.
