The best plan to prepare for Donald Trump's possible return to the White House in 2025 is to support the European single market. This was stated by the head of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, in Bloomberg.
"The best defense, if we want to look at it that way, is offense. To attack properly, you need to be strong at home. So, to be strong means to have a strong, deep market, to have a real single market," Lagarde said in Davos.
Trump has cemented his status as the leader of the Republican Party by winning the first stage for the GOP in the 2024 elections in Iowa, an event that has caused concern among Davos participants.
Earlier, Lagarde emphasized that his potential victory in the November US presidential election could jeopardize global trade, support for Ukraine, and the fight against climate change.
"We're all concerned about this because the United States is the largest economy, the largest defense nation in the world and has been a beacon of democracy, with all its pros and cons. We have to be very careful," Lagarde said earlier this week.
Her calls to strengthen the single market are a constant demand. Today, she called for a stronger securities supervisory authority in Europe as one of the measures to promote capital market integration.
