EU starts working on new sanctions against Russia on the eve of the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine

The European Union has begun discussions on a new package of sanctions, which it intends to approve by February 24, the second anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg.

According to the information received, the proposed measures may include expanding the list of persons subject to sanctions, tightening trade restrictions and limiting Moscow's ability to evade sanctions, both through third countries and through companies within the EU.

A meeting of EU ambassadors on January 18 highlighted the discussion of possible sanctions, where member states discussed ways to provide long-term support to Kyiv. However, reaching an agreement on the 13th package of sanctions by next month will be a difficult task, as previous rounds required weeks of negotiations, Bloomberg reports.
