German experts believe that an armed confrontation between NATO and Russia is possible in five to eight years. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
According to him, he does not currently believe that an attack by the Russian Federation is likely. However, he is inclined to trust the statements of experts that a war could possibly break out in the next five to eight years.
"We hear threats from the Kremlin almost every day, recently again against our friends in the Baltic States. Therefore, we must take into account that one day Russia may even attack a NATO country," the Defense Minister said.
Pistorius also noted that he wanted to "wake up society" with his statement and call on the German armed forces to be prepared for such a scenario.
