Russia was able to attack Ukrainian territory and had some success. However, the number of military clashes at the front has significantly decreased. This was stated by Colonel Tarmo Kundla, head of the operational department of the Estonian General Staff, in an interview with ERR.
"The main efforts are likely to be focused on the area around Avdiivka, and additional assets can be expected to be deployed there in the near future," Kundla said.
According to him, the Russian army managed to make progress on the Kupyansk-Kreminna line and seized small villages near Bakhmut. Russian troops also managed to seize limited areas of Donetsk region.
However, the Ukrainian military managed to liberate territories in the settlements near Velyka Novosilka. Significant fighting also continues in the eastern part of Kherson region.
Kundla noted that despite some successes of Russian troops, they have not managed to do anything decisive.
"Ukraine has to defend itself," he said.
He noted that despite the fact that Russia has been conducting particularly intense fire strikes on Ukrainian settlements in the past two weeks, these attacks have not weakened the will of Ukrainians to defend themselves and their air defense.
"However, Ukrainians could defend themselves even better if they had the technology to destroy the platforms from which the air strikes are carried out," Kundla said.
