Recruitment does not mean that only volunteers will defend the country - Defense Ministry spokesman

Recruitment does not cancel the process of mobilization to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and does not replace conscription. In any case, the necessary number of people will be recruited to protect the state. Defense Ministry spokesman Ilarion Pavliuk said this during a telethon.

According to him, Ukrainians may get the wrong impression amid talk of recruitment that from now on the country will be protected "only those who want, and those who don't want to, don't have to."

"Recruitment is primarily about improving the service and approaches to mobilizing those people who are ready to serve in the Armed Forces. We offer them to join the Armed Forces voluntarily, without waiting for mobilization or a summons, and offer a choice of specialties... But this cannot mean that only those who want to serve will do so, and that only non-combat specialties can now be chosen, despite the fact that the army really needs various specialties," Pavliuk said.

He said that the Defense Ministry is interested in recruiting as many people as possible, but since there is a need to defend Ukraine, "we will still get the number we need," including through mobilization.
