Western F-16 fighter jets are unlikely to help Ukraine in the fight against Russian ballistic missiles. This was stated by the speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuriy Ihnat, during a telethon.
"The F-16 is unlikely to help in the fight against ballistic missiles. Ballistic missiles are ground-based installations that can be triggered anywhere and fire a missile. The F-16 cannot work against them. It can destroy aerodynamic targets, as well as work on ground and surface targets," Ihnat said.
According to him, Ukrainian pilots and ground personnel continue to undergo training at various sites. He also noted that "the geography of these sites is growing" as more and more countries join the aviation coalition.
"We are doing this in record time. So, we are really looking forward to aircraft that will be able to repel Russian aviation. We need air superiority. Without air superiority, it is very difficult for ground troops," said Ihnat.
