At a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Joe Biden said he had agreed to provide Ukraine with another $200 million in military aid. This money has already been approved by Congress, The New York Times reports.
At the same time, Biden said that Congress should approve additional funds to provide more assistance to Ukraine, referring to a package worth billions of dollars of support.
"Congress should pass additional funding for Ukraine before they go on holiday break, before they give Putin the biggest Christmas gift they could give him," Biden said.
Later, the US Department of Defense reported that the aid package included additional air defense systems, artillery ammunition, anti-tank weapons, and other equipment.
It is noted that Ukraine will receive the following types of weapons:
- AIM-9M missiles for air defense;
- air defense system components;
- additional ammunition for highly mobile artillery missile systems (HIMARS);
- 155-mm and 105-mm artillery shells;
- high-speed anti-radiation missiles (HARM);
- tube-launched missiles with optical tracking and wire guidance (TOW);
- Javelin and AT-4 anti-tank systems;
- more than 4 million rounds of ammunition for small arms;
- ammunition for the removal of obstacles;equipment to protect critical national infrastructure;
- spare parts, generators, maintenance and other support equipment.
