Zelensky: 2024 should be the year when Ukraine throws Russia out of its sky

Strengthening air defense is the best strategic investment in our country's security. And 2024 should be the year when Ukraine throws Russia out of its sky. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reported this on Twitter (X).

Zelensky listed five reasons why strengthening Ukraine's air defense is the best strategic investment in the country's security.

"First of all, every air defense system and every missile provided to Ukraine saves lives," the president said.

Secondly, according to him, more people will be able to return from abroad to every major city and region that will be completely covered by a reliable air shield. This will give a significant boost to Ukraine's economy, help us reduce the budget deficit and, as a result, the need for international financial assistance.

"Thirdly, the stronger our air defense, the greater Ukraine's success in the Black Sea, the greater our maritime exports, the better our freedom of navigation is protected and the greater our stability. This will allow us to deliver hundreds of thousands of additional tons of food through a safer maritime export corridor and counteract the global food crisis," Zelensky explained.

Fourthly, as the President noted, each additional air defense system and missile saves resources that would otherwise be needed to restore destroyed facilities, critical infrastructure, energy systems, power grids, etc.

And fifthly, depriving Russia of the ability to terrorize Ukraine with missiles and drones will force the aggressor to abandon these tactics, which will generally help bring victory closer.

The President noted that Ukraine is a large country, so the need for air defense is significant.

Zelensky is confident that strengthening our air defense capabilities is the best strategic investment in security, which will also save our partners a significant amount of resources in the long run.

"Since 2022, Ukraine has liberated more than half of the land occupied by Russia. In 2023, Ukraine expelled the Russian fleet from most of the Black Sea. 2024 should be the year when Ukraine throws Russia out of its sky," the Head of State emphasized.
