Republican leader in the United States Senate, Mitch McConnell, has called for the adoption of a temporary budget that does not provide funding for assistance to Ukraine. This was reported by The Hill.
The senator noted that he supports the proposal of US House Speaker Mike Johnson on a temporary budget. This is necessary to avoid a shutdown (stoppage of government work) because the main budget was not adopted on time.
"This is a responsible measure that will preserve the workforce and avoid harmful cuts in federal spending," McConnell emphasized.
According to him, such a temporary budget will allow to complete work on the annual spending bills within the next two months.
According to the publication, if Congress approves the temporary budget, there will be no more bills on financing Ukraine or Israel until January.
