Aid to Ukraine will not be approved in 2023 - US Senate leaders

The leaders of the Democratic majority and Republican minority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, have said that a new package of military and financial aid to Ukraine will not be approved until the end of 2023. They announced this in a joint statement.

According to the lawmakers, bipartisan negotiations on the security of the southern border of the United States are making "encouraging progress."

They noted that despite the "difficult challenges," the Senate will look for a way to resolve the border issue, as well as aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan.

"The Senate will not leave these national security challenges unanswered. As negotiators work to resolve the remaining issues, we hope their efforts will allow the Senate to take swift action on a national security supplemental document early in the new year," the senators said.

Schumer and McConnell emphasized that the negotiators and the White House will continue to work on the agreement until 2023.
