NATO Secretary General calls for increased support for Ukraine in light of difficult situation on the battlefield

Western allies should increase support for Ukraine, as the situation on the battlefield in the fight against Russia remains difficult. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in a commentary to journalists during the EU Ministerial Council in Brussels.

"I expect that during the meeting we will address the situation in Ukraine, where intense fighting continues. The situation on the battlefield is difficult, and this makes it even more important to continue and increase our support for Ukraine. We cannot allow President Putin to win," Stoltenberg said.

He emphasized that Ukraine must be preserved as a sovereign, independent state in Europe and that it is in the interests of NATO and European allies to support it.

The Alliance Secretary General also noted that wars are unpredictable by nature, so no one can say how and when the war in Ukraine will end.

"What we can say is that as the likelihood of an unacceptable negotiated outcome increases, we must increase the assistance we provide to Ukraine. At the moment, we see no desire on the part of President Putin to negotiate around an acceptable solution for Ukraine. To achieve this, we need to convince President Putin that he will not win on the battlefield," Stoltenberg added.
