Zaluzhny's statements on the situation at the front cause disagreements in Congress over aid to Ukraine - Politico

The statement of the Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyi about the deadlock at the front "stirs up partisan passions" in the US Congress, where the issue of further aid to Ukraine is being debated. This is reported by Politico.

Republicans argue that the commander-in-chief's comments are a reason to rethink American support as much as possible, which could further worsen Kyiv's position in Washington.

Republican Senator Josh Hawley said that Zaluzhnyi's outspokenness "blew a big hole" in US President Joe Biden's policy of continuing to fund Ukraine.

"This naturally raises the question: what exactly is our endgame strategy? What is the plan here? I don't think they have a plan," Hawley said.

"Zelensky's military goals are unrealistic, and some of his inner circle are resisting. This was always going to end with Russia controlling part of Ukrainian territory and a negotiated settlement. I have been saying this for a year now. It was obvious to anyone who was paying attention to the realities on the ground," said Republican Senator J.D. Vance.

The publication notes that the position of Vance and Hawley is still a minority view in the Senate, where most senators from both parties continue to say they want to continue to help Ukraine break the deadlock.

But such protests are "finding a wider audience," especially as the nation's attention shifts to helping Israel.

"The nature of the war in Ukraine is that it will go on for miles. The United States must continue to support Ukraine because it is vital to our national security, even if there is no giant breakthrough," said Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal.
