Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that the European Union can become stronger after Ukraine's accession. He said this during a speech in Berlin.
Kuleba emphasizes that Ukraine is making significant efforts and achieving noticeable results in implementing reforms in the country. Reforms are important for our society and make Ukraine stronger and more resilient.
"Ukraine's accession to the European Union will mean strengthening Europe's security, not weakening it. Ukraine will become an added value, not a burden for the EU. Russia's aggression against Ukraine has shown that the EU can be strong and act decisively, but EU reforms should not demotivate new member states or postpone their accession," the minister said.
He emphasized that the enlargement process should not be held hostage to internal EU reforms. Internal reforms in the bloc and electoral processes in individual countries cannot affect the dynamics of negotiations on the accession of new member states.
"Ukrainians are now the most optimistic about the European project as such, they are committed to European values and principles. We cannot lose this historic moment and unprecedented level of support. We need to use this potential to bring more positive changes to the EU," Kuleba said.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister emphasized that the first to benefit from the enlargement will be the EU citizens themselves, as it will mean strengthening the opportunities of the common market, human rights and the rule of law and make the EU a stronger player on the world stage.
