Ombudsman Lubinets: Evacuation of Ukrainians from Gaza Strip will be a priority for Egypt

Egyptian authorities have already received lists of Ukrainians for evacuation from the Gaza Strip. This will be their priority. This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets during a telethon.

"The evacuation of Ukrainian citizens will be a priority for the Egyptian authorities. These are the direct words of Deputy (Minister of Foreign Affairs for Human Rights) Khalid El-Bakly. I spoke with him yesterday. At 12:00 today, our ambassador handed them the lists, where he confirmed that the Egyptian authorities are now working to open the Rafah crossing point, through which civilians will be evacuated, as soon as possible," Lubinets said.

At the same time, he clarified that as of now, there is no official information on the opening of the border with Egypt and the Egyptian authorities have not yet given permission for evacuation groups to approach this crossing point.

According to Lubinets, the number of Ukrainian citizens who want to leave Gaza is constantly growing. At the same time, more than half of those who have already applied for help are in the immediate vicinity of the Rafah crossing.

"First of all, these are those citizens whose homes were destroyed, and sometimes they just approach this crossing point on foot, with their children. The rest of the Ukrainians were informed that as soon as the information about the opening of the checkpoint appears, they should find an opportunity to get there as soon as possible," the ombudsman said.
