Turkey no longer expects anything from the EU - Erdogan

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Turkey will not consider any new requirements or conditions for joining the European Union. This was reported by the Anadolu Agency.

Erdogan noted that Turkey has fulfilled all its obligations to the European Union, while the EU has not realized almost any of its promises.

The Turkish president emphasized that the EU's unfair and biased attitude toward the country is incompatible with the principle of loyalty. He also stated that Turkey no longer has expectations from the EU, after more than 60 years of expectations.

The Turkish president noted that if the EU abandons the visa regime, which he said is used by the bloc as a veiled sanction against Ankara, it will "correct its mistakes."

The President also emphasized that the reforms in the field of rights and freedoms carried out in the country were not done because someone demanded it, but because the nation deserves a better and modern society.

Erdogan concluded that Turkey could no longer tolerate new impositions and conditions for joining the EU.
