Scandal in Canada: SS Galicia veteran was invited to Zelensky's speech

The Western media are actively discussing the incident related to the visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Canada, where he spoke to the country's parliament, the Associated Press reports. It is known that Yaroslav Hunko, a 98-year-old veteran of the SS Galicia Division, was invited to this speech.

When Parliament Speaker Anthony Rota introduced him as a "hero of Ukraine and Canada," the audience gave him a standing ovation.

According to the publication, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also joined in the applause.

The speech was followed by a scandal caused by dissatisfaction from the Simon Wiesenthal Jewish Center (USA), Reuters reports. In response, the Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada apologized for what happened.

"Later, additional information became known to me, which makes me regret my decision to do so (invite Hunko to the meeting - Ed.)," said Speaker Anthony Rota.

Rota claims that the Ukrainian delegation was unaware of the plans to invite the Galicia veteran.

He also apologized to the Jewish communities of Canada.

The office of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the speaker's apology "the right decision" and emphasized that they had no information about the invitation of the Galicia veteran to the House of Commons.
