Ukraine is filing a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization against Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia over their unilateral restrictions on imports of Ukrainian food products, but a compromise is possible. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal in his Telegram.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Ukraine offers the European Union and neighboring countries a compromise scenario, including an action plan to control the export of certain agricultural products from Ukraine. This control will be aimed at preventing market distortion in EU member states.
"In particular, we plan to adopt a resolution that will provide that goods exported to 5 neighboring countries will be subject to verification and approval by the Ukrainian Ministry of Economy," the Prime Minister said.
The Prime Minister also said that Ukraine has already filed a formal request to Poland, Hungary and Slovakia regarding violations of WTO rules and launched an anti-discrimination investigation into their unfriendly actions in the trade sphere.
"We are also launching an anti-discrimination investigation against the unfriendly actions of these countries in the trade sphere based on 2023 statistics. If Poland and Hungary do not agree to the measures agreed with the European Commission and do not lift their unilateral bans on our goods, we will decide to ban imports of certain categories of goods from these countries to Ukraine," Shmyhal said.
