American entrepreneur and owner of the social network X (formerly known as Twitter), Elon Musk, told Pentagon officials that he had personally spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
This is reported by The New Yorker.
According to the article, Musk voluntarily provided this information during an October conversation with Colin Cole, a former prominent Pentagon political figure. During the discussion, they discussed that Ukrainian troops lost connection with the Starlink system when they entered the occupied territory.
"My conclusions were that Elon Musk was feeling some anxiety that the Starlink system's involvement in Russia was increasingly perceived as contributing to Ukraine's war effort, and he was looking for a way to calm Russian outrage," Cole said in an interview with The New Yorker.
According to the publication, Pentagon officials were disappointed that Musk said he had personal contact with Putin.
