The UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine, Denise Brown, expressed her outrage at reports today that a hotel frequently used by UN staff and their colleagues from non-governmental organizations supporting war-affected people was damaged by a Russian strike in Zaporizhzhia.
"This is absolutely unacceptable," Brown stressed. - "I've stayed at this hotel every time I've been to Zaporizhzhia. My team uses it as a base for their frequent trips to the city. It was the UN base for the operation to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol last May."
Brown emphasized that the number of indiscriminate attacks on civilian infrastructure resulting in civilian deaths and injuries has reached "an unbelievable level." She recalled the violation of international humanitarian law.
"In the name of humanity, I call on the Russian Federation to fulfill its obligations under international humanitarian law and immediately stop its indiscriminate attacks on Ukraine," Brown said.
