On June 6, 2023, 31 people died in the territory controlled by the government as a result of the Russians blowing up the Kakhovskaya HPP.
This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ihor Klymenko, in an interview with Radio Svoboda.
"As for the dead: we have 31 dead people today. 29 are from the Kherson region and two citizens died in the Mykolaiv region," Klymenko said.
At the same time, there is currently no final information on material losses. The count is still in progress.
"It is very difficult to calculate in these months how much we have lost a possible harvest, how many private farms we have lost, including vineyards and melon crops that grew on this territory, how much we have lost opportunities for water. This is a big problem," he said.
In his opinion, currently the main problem is access to water for citizens in the future.
Undermining Kakhovskaya HPP
On the night of June 6, the Russian occupiers blew up the mined Kakhovskaya HPP. As a result of the breach of the dam, dozens of settlements in the Kherson region were flooded. This led to the death of civilians, the death of animals, the destruction of property and the pollution of the Dnipro River, and provoked an ecological disaster.
As the head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov said, such actions of the Russians were planned in advance. This is evidenced by the fact that the enemy began withdrawing the unit from the Kakhovskaya HPP half an hour before the station was blown up.
Earlier, experts emphasized that it will be impossible to rebuild the Kakhovskaya HPP after a terrorist act by the enemy.
