Despite the war, 70% of Ukrainians consider themselves happy people - survey

Most Ukrainians consider themselves happy. This is evidenced by the results of a survey published on July 7 by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology.

Despite the war, 70% of citizens said that they consider themselves happy.

The opposite answer was given by 16% of respondents.

KMIS noted that for more than 20 years during their surveys, Ukrainians have been asked the question: "Do you consider yourself a happy person?"

The lowest percentage of positive responses to it was in January 2001 – 38%. At the same time, 33% of respondents claimed that they did not consider themselves happy.

During the full-scale invasion of the aggressor country of the Russian Federation, the indicators have changed little.

In December 2021, 71% of Ukrainians called themselves happy, and in September 2022 - 68%.

The survey was conducted in the period from May 26 to June 5 by the method of telephone interviews using a computer based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers. 984 respondents over the age of 18 who live in all regions of Ukraine, except temporarily occupied Crimea, were interviewed.

Formally, under normal circumstances, the statistical error of such a sample (with a probability of 0.95 and taking into account the design effect of 1.1) did not exceed 3.4% for indicators close to 50%, 3% for indicators close to 25%, 2 .1% – for indicators close to 10%, 1.5% – for indicators close to 5%. In the conditions of war, in addition to the specified formal error, there is a certain systematic deviation.
