The authorities of the Odesa region have banned residents from swimming in the sea, estuary and rivers, as well as fishing. Dangerous substances were found in the water.
This is reported by the Odesa City Council.
Specialists conducted laboratory studies of water in Odesa region. In the last week, the causative agents of infectious diseases, including salmonella, rota and astraviruses, cholera-like vibrios, parahemolyticus, eggs and larvae of human and animal helminths, were found in the water. In addition, the content of Escherichia coli significantly exceeds the norm.
The authorities declare that swimming in the water, as well as fishing in it, is dangerous for people.
"The presence of all the listed biological pathogens in the water of the open water bodies of the Odesa region, in particular, the Black Sea, the Bilgorod-Dnistrovskyi estuary and the Danube River, creates a real threat to the life and health of the population," the message says.
Director of the city's Department of Education, Olena Buynevych, urges parents not to ignore the ban on swimming in the sea.
"Do you understand what's in that water? Animal corpses, flooded street latrines, food, all this is carried by the waves, and we are children there? To what? Get healthy?
I ask, I demand, because we have children together - STOP GOING INTO THE WATER! Do not drag the children there, are you absolutely sure that we, you, need an infectious disease now?
And the incubation period? Will you take it to kindergarten or to the playground?
This is not only the case of those who ventured into the sea.
This is a threat to all children and parents, all Odesans, all Ukrainians. Regardless of whether they swam in it personally," she wrote on FB.
What preceded it
After the explosion of the dam of the Kakhovsky reservoir, part of the territories of the Kherson, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Zaporizhzhya regions were flooded. In addition, piles of garbage were washed into the Black Sea, and the water in Odesa region lost its salinity.
Residents of the affected regions were urged to be careful and not to consume surface water. The Ministry of Health recommends using only bottled water, even for washing vegetables and fruits.
