The Ministry of Culture revoked the protection status of two more Soviet monuments in Kyiv

The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine has deprived two more Soviet monuments in Kyiv of their protective status. The press service of the Ministry of Culture wrote about this on May 17.

"The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy recognized two Soviet monuments of monumental art as not subject to entry into the State Register of immovable monuments of Ukraine, objects of cultural heritage," they said.

It is a monument to the participants of the January armed uprising of 1918 in Mariinsky Park and an obelisk in honor of the hero city of Kyiv on Halytskyi Square.

We will remind that after the open invasion of Russia on February 24, 2022, in Ukraine, names associated with the aggressor country began to be abandoned en masse, including the renaming of streets, as well as the dismantling of monuments.

In June 2022, a new body was created under the Ministry of Culture and the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance - the Council for De-Russification, Decommunization and Decolonization. Among his tasks is the coordination of the renaming of toponyms and the dismantling of Soviet monuments.
