US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said that Ukraine has a significant part of the capabilities that are necessary for the success of the spring counteroffensive against the background of the consequences of the leak of American intelligence documents.
Austin made the announcement at a press conference with Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and their Philippine counterparts, whom they met at the State Department on Tuesday.
Austin was answering a question about the extent to which the leak of classified data in the US will affect the tactics of the expected Ukrainian counteroffensive.
"I just spoke with my counterpart in Ukraine, Minister Oleksii Reznikov. We discussed a number of issues... But he and the leadership remain focused on the task at hand. And I have full confidence that they will do what good leaders, great leaders do : they will fight the enemy, not follow a specific plan," Austin said.
According to him, the Ukrainians have a "great plan to start with", but only President Zelenskyi and his leadership really know all the details of this plan.
"Therefore, they have a significant part of the capabilities necessary for further success. We have trained a huge number of military personnel. We have provided a significant number of platforms," the head of the Pentagon continued.
According to him, the US will continue to focus on providing security assistance so that Ukrainian forces "can continue to be successful when they decide to conduct offensive operations."
