US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has called on allies to provide Ukraine with air defense systems. This is necessary to protect Ukrainian civilians in winter. This was reported by the Pentagon press service.
"So now that Ukraine is facing another winter at war, I urge this group (Ramstein - ed.) to provide Ukraine with air defense equipment to protect its people," Austin said during his speech at a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine's Defense (Ramstein Format).
He emphasized that shortly after his visit to Ukraine on November 20, Russian troops conducted a new series of missile attacks on Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine in an attempt to disrupt the country's energy system.
"Russia's attacks on Ukraine's infrastructure could mean suffering and death for countless innocent Ukrainian citizens," Austin emphasized.
However, the Secretary expressed confidence that the Ukrainian people will demonstrate resilience in the face of difficulties as they fight for their future.
