The government hopes for Ukraine's accession to the EU "in less than two years"

The Prime Minister of Ukraine, Denys Shmygal, said that the government expects to close all chapters of the accession negotiations and sign the agreement on Ukraine's membership in the EU within two years. He said this in a speech at a government meeting.

Denys Shmyhal noted that there is a clear understanding of what exactly and in what sequence should be done in order for Ukraine to quickly join the EU.

"Now we are completing the implementation of seven recommendations of the European Commission, which will allow us to launch the next steps for integration. We also have to analyze the compliance of our legislation with the legislation of the European Union in order to clearly understand the amount of work that needs to be done," he emphasized.

In parallel with this, preparations will be made for accession negotiations - Ukraine's negotiating position will be formed, the impact assessment on economic spheres will be formed, teams of negotiators will be prepared.

"Further, we have a path of negotiations, which should culminate in the signing of the Agreement on Ukraine's accession to the EU. We expect to complete this path in less than two years, and then Ukraine will become a full member of the EU," said Denys Shmyhal.

It should be noted that according to the procedure currently used by the European Commission, the opening of accession negotiations (after which Ukraine will need to adapt the legislation to the European legislation regarding 35 negotiating chapters, "closing" them one by one) is possible no earlier than the fall of 2023.
