Some parts of eastern Ukraine want to be with Russia - Elon Musk

American businessman Elon Musk spoke again about Russia's war against Ukraine and said that in some regions in the east there is allegedly a "pro-Russian majority". He wrote about it on Twitter.

According to him, in any "conflict region it is necessary to support the will of those who live there". He noted that most of Ukraine "unequivocally wants to be part of Ukraine, but some eastern parts have a pro-Russian majority and prefer Russia."

Musk then published an electoral map with voting statistics for the Verkhovna Rada elections in 2012, which took place before the start of Russia's war against Ukraine — he said that then in the southern and eastern regions, residents supported pro-Russian parties.

"Obviously, not everyone who voted for the pro-Russian party wanted to join Russia, but it's also wrong to say that no one wanted it," the businessman wrote.

In the comments, Musk was reminded of the results of the elections to the Ukrainian parliament in 2019, when most regions of Ukraine, including Kherson and Zaporizhzhya, voted for the party of President Volodymyr Zelenskiy.

In response, the businessman wrote that Kherson and Zaporizhzhya "almost certainly do not want to join Russia," and the annexation of these regions was made "to provide a land bridge and water supply to Crimea."
