Macron on Russia's decision to go to war against Ukraine: the consequences of Putin's COVID isolation

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's decision to go to war against Ukraine may be the result of his isolation during the pandemic.

This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, CNN reports.

"It is clear to everyone that the leader who decided to start a war, the leader who decided to escalate, is President Putin. And I have no rational explanation (why he started a war against Ukraine, - ed.). I think it is a combination of strategies German intervention, and, I would say, the consequences of Putin's COVID isolation during the pandemic," he said.

At the same time, the French leader called the decision to mobilize in the Russian Federation a mistake and a lost opportunity "to follow the path to peace."
