Macron dissolves parliament after his party's defeat in the European Parliament elections

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced the dissolution of the National Assembly, the lower house of the French parliament. This happened after the preliminary results of the European Parliament elections in France. This is reported by Le Figaro.

Thus, Macron made the decision to dissolve the parliament against the backdrop of the devastating defeat of his party, the Renaissance, in the European Parliament elections. It gained 15.2% of the vote, losing more than twice to the right-wing National Rally party, which received 31.5% of the vote.

Macron addressed the nation on this occasion and said that parties opposing aid to Ukraine had strengthened their positions in Europe.

According to him, “everywhere on the continent, extreme right-wing parties have strengthened their positions, which in recent years have opposed the progress made by Europe, whether it is economic growth, joint defense of European borders, support for agrarians, or assistance to Ukraine.”

“The main result of the elections is clear. This is not the best result for the parties that advocate European integration, including the presidential camp in France,” the French president added.

The first round of early parliamentary elections will be held on June 30. The second round will be held on July 7.
