The European Commission explained that negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU are unlikely to begin before October 2023, but earlier dates are not completely impossible.
Katarina Maternova, Deputy Director General of the General Directorate for Neighborhood Affairs and Negotiations on the Expansion of the EC, said this.
She explained that the planned report on Ukraine's progress, in particular, the implementation of the seven recommendations that Kyiv received along with the candidate status, will be prepared only in January or February, and only after that it will be possible to raise the issue of negotiations. In addition, for the decision to start negotiations, Ukraine will need to work on building a consensus in the EU and create the necessary momentum for this to happen.
