Slovenian Prime Minister Robert Golob and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz during a telephone conversation on Monday agreed on a "round exchange" scheme, as a result of which Ukraine will receive 28 modernized M-55S tanks.
This was reported in the office of the Slovak Prime Minister.
During the conversation, Scholz and Golob agreed that Slovenia would receive 35 German trucks and five automobile tanks in exchange for the tanks transferred to Ukraine.
"This 'circular exchange' will also strengthen defense cooperation between Slovenia and Germany," the message states.
As "Militaryny" specifies, the M-55S is a modernization of the obsolete Soviet T-55 tank, equipped with a 105-mm gun with a heat jacket, active armor and an improved fire control system.
The last time Slovenia received modernized T-55s was in 1999, in total the country's armed forces had 30 such machines.
The agreement on the exchange of weapons between Germany and Slovenia became known at the end of April. According to it, Slovenia was to provide Ukraine with Soviet-made T-72 tanks, and to receive more modern German military equipment.
In July, the Slovenian Prime Minister of Slovenia, Robert Golob, stated that he expects to conclude an agreement with Germany on the transfer of Soviet-style weapons to Ukraine by the end of the summer.
