The head of the IAEA consults with Ukraine and the Russian Federation regarding the creation of a safe zone around the ZNPP

IAEA Director General Raphael Grossi confirmed that the agency is conducting consultations with Ukraine and Russia regarding the creation of a nuclear safety zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

"A nuclear safety and security zone is urgently needed and I have started initial consultations with the relevant parties," he said.

Grossi assured that the creation of such a zone will help stop the shelling of the nuclear plant, and will also provide the NPP with uninterrupted access to external energy, which is necessary for cooling the reactor and other systems.

In addition, the head of the IAEA once again emphasized that there are no radiation risks at the Zaporizhzhya NPP. However, the situation may worsen due to shelling.
