Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has introduced levels of control and accountability to ensure oversight of aid provided to Ukraine by Western countries, wrote Andriy Yermak, the head of the Office of the President, in a column for Newsweek.
"After September 11, 2001, the United States, its allies and partners sent military equipment worth hundreds of billions of dollars to Afghanistan and Iraq. Unfortunately, some of this aid ended up in the hands of the enemy. This will never happen in Ukraine, not least because that Ukraine has already demonstrated what none of these countries has - the desire to fight for itself," Yermak wrote.
"This aid is a matter of life and death for us, and I can assure the American people and their elected representatives that Zelenskiy and his administration consider the effective use of weapons not only as a top priority, but also as a sacred duty to the Ukrainian people. That's why "Zelenskiy introduced levels of control and accountability to ensure oversight of the aid provided by Ukraine," the head of the President's Office emphasized.
Yermak noted that on an intergovernmental basis, the President of Ukraine and his team of advisers regularly meet with representatives of countries that provide this aid to report on where and how this aid is used.
He reminded that the Verkhovna Rada has created a special commission for monitoring and control of all foreign aid provided by Ukraine, which includes representatives of each parliamentary faction. In addition, the Verkhovna Rada delegates hold virtual meetings with their European counterparts on an almost weekly basis to ensure that the legislatures have the information they need to carry out their oversight functions.
"The administration is also briefing the appropriate US congressional committees on security assistance oversight, and we are working closely with Brigadier General Garrick M. Harmon, the recently arrived US defense attache. Rest assured, he will have an unprecedented level of access and support from on the part of the administration". Zelenskiy," Yermak emphasized.
"Security assistance provided by the American people is vital for us to complete our mission and prevent the further spread of this conflict. Ukraine's victory will be a victory for the US and all democracies," the head of the President's Office said.
