The European Parliament and the Council jointly called on the Russian Federation to withdraw troops from the ZNPP and stop nuclear blackmail

Members of the Bureau of the Parliamentary Committee of the Ukraine-EU Association and the permanent rapporteur of the European Parliament on Ukraine jointly called on Russia to stop nuclear blackmail around the Zaporizhzhya NPP and condemned the intention to annex newly occupied territories.

This is reported by "European Truth".

The authors of the statement emphasize that the actions of the Russian occupying forces on the territory of the Zaporizhzhya NPP pose a serious threat to the nuclear safety of the European continent.

"We call on the international community to take urgent action and force Russia to release the ZANP and return the power plant to the control of Ukraine for the sake of the security of the whole world. We call on the EU and the Group of Seven to adopt tough sanctions against Rosatom and the entire Russian nuclear industry in response to nuclear blackmail, and in order to prevent a precedent for other terrorists," the statement said. They also call for the IAEA mission to be admitted to the station.

The statement also condemns the intentions of the Russian Federation to hold pseudo-referendums with the aim of further annexing the occupied territories.

"We declare that any attempts to hold so-called "referendums" in these territories will be recognized by the international community and Ukraine as illegal, null and void," they note.

In addition, they condemn Russia for killing more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war from "Azovstal", who are held in the colony in Olenivka.

"We demand from the UN and the ICRC, which act as guarantors of the life and health of Ukrainian prisoners of war, to immediately react to this terrorist attack by Russia and send their representatives to the village of Olenivka with inspection missions," the co-authors call.

Another block is devoted to the ban on tourist trips for Russians to EU countries. The co-authors point out that the war unleashed by the Kremlin has broad popular support, and it is only fair that Russians feel responsible for the actions of their leadership.

"We fully support the idea of stopping the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens, which would be a fair decision. Those who really need protection from persecution in Russia can freely use well-known legal mechanisms, such as refugee status, asylum requests," they say. they.

They also call for sanctions such as entry bans, arrests and confiscation of property for public figures who help shape public opinion in Russia in support of Russian aggression against Ukraine.

We will remind you that the situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP was one of the key topics of the meeting between President Volodymyr Zelenskyi yand UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in Lviv. According to Zelenskiy, they agreed on the parameters of a possible mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency to the occupied station.
