The European Union and Ukraine have signed a memorandum on the provision of the first tranche of macrofinancial assistance worth 1bn euros. The European Commission Vice President Valdis Dombrovskis said this on Twitter.
"Signing a memorandum of understanding with Ukraine on behalf of the EU to provide macrofinancial assistance of 1 billion euros as emergency financing. This amount will be disbursed at the end of July to support the government and the people of Ukraine," he said.
He added that the Ukrainian economy is working under war conditions and the European Union should help it.
It should be noted that this is the first tranche of the total amount of 9bn euros.
